Star-Delta starter and Soft Starter

To run the 3-phase motors, you would consider using Star-Delta or Soft Starter due to the direct connection to creating high current and torque.

 

Direct-on-line would use up to 5HP

Star-Delta, up to 20HP

VFD, more than 20HP

Soft Starter, more than 20HP

 

Star-Delta combination

First started in Star configuration and after acceleration to rated speed with delta configuration and full voltage continues to run.

 

Soft Starter

Alternative to the star-delta starter. Ultimately the purpose similar to the star delta starter is to reduce the starting current and torque. The only essential difference is that the technical implementation is carried out with power semiconductors so called thyristors with help of the phase angle method. These are controlled in such a way that the voltage rises continually during startup. This reduces both the current and torque.
